Licence
Depending on the premises and the type of fruit machine (also called AWP's-amusement with prizes) required, the venue will require, under the Gaming Act, a permit or registration. The machine may also require a license issued by Customs & Excise (called AMLD – amusement machine license duty).
As a guide to the venues requirements under the Gaming Act
  • If the premises are licensed for the sale of alcohol and is not a members or social club etc then a section 34 permit will be issued by the local court.

  • If the If the premises are not licensed for the sale of alcohol the permit will be issued by the local council.

  • If the premises are a members or social club etc then registration under part III of the gaming act is required and will be issued by the local court.

As a guide to the Customs & Excise license for machines
  • Currently all machines with a jackpot in excess of £8 with a price per play exceeding 10p will require a license. The cost of this license depends on the payout and the price of pay.
